The short version
Best Train Rides is a static directory. It has no accounts, no comments and no advertising trackers, it does not sell or share personal information, and the one personalisation feature it offers — your shortlist — never leaves your own device. The only personal information the site ever receives is what you type into a form, and it is used only for the purpose you sent it.
Your shortlist stays on your device
The "My shortlist" feature stores the railways you save in your browser's local storage, on your own device. That list is never transmitted to us or anyone else — there is no server copy, and we cannot see it. Clearing your browser's site data deletes it.
Forms
The contact, submit-a-listing, suggest-a-correction and newsletter forms send what you type to a private review queue, where a human reads it. Contact and correction messages are used to answer you and to check the listing concerned. Listing suggestions are used to check the railway suggested. Newsletter addresses are used only to send the Christmas train list updates described at signup. Form submissions are not sold, rented or shared for marketing, and they are not added to any third-party mailing list.
Server logs
Like almost every website, the hosting server keeps standard access logs — the pages requested, the time, and technical details such as browser type and approximate region. Logs are used to keep the site running, to spot broken links and abuse, and to understand in aggregate which pages help travellers. This site does not run advertising or analytics trackers and does not set tracking cookies.

Listings link out to operators' own websites. Those sites have their own privacy practices, which we don't control — this policy covers Best Train Rides only.
