Fall is when Canada's excursion railways earn their keep. The colour comes in
waves — first the alpine tundra and the northern hardwoods in late August and September, then
the prairie harvest in September, and finally the great Ontario and Quebec hardwood peak from
late September into mid-October. Every train below runs through its region's colour season;
each card notes what to expect. These are typical patterns — the colour itself answers to
the weather, and the operators' fall dates are the ones to trust.
