Ontario's scene is top-heavy in the best way: the Agawa Canyon Tour Train is one of the great scenic rides in North America, a 114-mile run into a canyon you cannot reach by road, at its peak in the fall colour season.
South of it, a healthy heritage cluster — South Simcoe, Waterloo Central, Halton County's streetcars, Port Stanley, Huntsville's Portage Flyer and Smiths Falls' caboose rides — covers most weekends from spring to Christmas. Be aware that two famous names are gone: the York-Durham Heritage Railway and the Credit Valley Explorer have closed, whatever older listicles still say. That is exactly why this list is re-checked every year.
How many listings typically run in each month — patterns, not schedules.

Sault Ste. Marie, ON
SeasonAug-Oct (2026: Aug 1-Oct 18)

TripAbout 10 hours round tripAccessWheelchair lifts for boarding (collapsible wheelchairs under 26 in wide; motorized wheelchairs and scooters cannot be accommodated). The Stone Gardner car is not wheelchair accessible.ParkingFree parking at the depot.
⚠ Check before you travel: the operator's own pages and booking calendar don't fully agree — the homepage's headline fare doesn't match the booking calendar's date-by-date fares, the season's closing date appears as two different dates in operator material, and the canyon stop is given as both 90 minutes and two hours. Confirm the fare, the date and the stop length on the booking page for your day.
